Urgent Help for Kayla’s Emergency Vet Bills

My friend Dani and her precious pup Kayla are faced with a very difficult situation. Kayla recently developed Lyme disease and is now experiencing life-threatening issues beyond the initial diagnosis.

They are currently at the emergency vet in Buffalo, and the bills are piling up in efforts to diagnose and treat her. The vet is concerned about her labored breathing because that is not a typical symptom of Lyme disease.

Kayla was rescued when she was 18 months old. A Craigslist ad of a pup seeking a good home brought Kayla and Dani together on September 13, 2014. The picture and description made for love at first sight.

To avoid paraphrasing in my own words, I have included the text I received explaining what is going on.

“Yesterday had to take her in because she was throwing up for a day and a half. Not able to keep her food down. At first, on Sunday morning, I just noticed she was having a harder time than usual moving around. I figured arthritis was setting in. Then she threw up twice at work and another 2 times at home. We were able to get her in with her primary vet Monday morning. They did blood work, and the vet said it looks ‘okay overall but she came back positive for Lyme.’ We started treatment for it. She stayed at the vet to get some fluids Monday till they closed.

She is usually so food motivated and even when she hasn’t felt good, she has always still had her spunky personality. Happy to see people she loves, go outside, or run over for breakfast and dinner. She hasn’t seemed to have the strength to really walk around. Wasn’t interested in food at all this morning (I cooked some plain rice and chicken for her).

Yesterday was rough after the vet. She wouldn’t rest. She’d lay down for a few seconds and get up abruptly, stand there and stare at us, or just stare at nothing. She seemed very uncomfortable. Only fell asleep after I posted up on the couch and had her on the ottoman right by my side. We’d get up periodically to go potty and she drank a little water.

This morning around 9 am her breathing became very irregular. I had already spoken to her primary vet this morning around 8:30 explaining that she hadn’t eaten and seemed very uncomfortable/in pain possibly.

I called them when her irregular breathing started and they sent me a number of vets to call so she could get on oxygen. No one in Rochester could take her. Called Buffalo and they told us (Marina and I) to head over. So thankful for her because I was in no shape to drive. I sat in the back with Kayla observing her (crying my eyes out). We’re here now. They’re doing X-rays, more blood work, she’s on oxygen, fluids, and doing some other testing. So far it’s been around $3500.”

Please consider donating so we can help Kayla and Dani during this challenging time.

I’ve created this fundraiser on behalf of my dear friends, Sarah and James, who are enduring every parent’s worst nightmare — the loss of their beloved son, Leo.

We’re heartbroken to share that our dear friend Alex passed away far too soon. His light, his laughter, his incredible spirit — they touched so many, and his absence is deeply felt.

Hi everyone — Angela here, writing on behalf of Matthew (for now). On December 6th, completely out of the blue, Matthew suffered a severe stroke.
