My name is Benjamin Doughty and I’m married to an amazing woman whose mother, Kristen Liu, was a victim of a horrific motorcycle accident in Indonesia on Wednesday night local time while leaving from church bible class (Wednesday morning here in the USA).
She and her church friend were struck from the side by a speeding motorcyclist and soon taken to the nearest hospital. She had level 3 Medicare provided by the Indonesian government (the lowest level) and the government hospital she was being treated at gave her and her friend substandard care. She sustained multiple fractures to her jaw, cheekbones, as well as other facial bones. She sustained broken collarbones, cranial fractures, broken wrists, hands, and broken feet. We quickly found out the government hospital facility she was taken to was staffed only by nurses and interns. They did not have senior staff on duty and because of the low tier of Medicare they had, the professor stayed at home and consulted with the interns over the phone when they had questions. The friend of Kristen who was with her on the motorcycle had only visual injuries, although severe, to her legs and so the interns only focused on her legs. On Wednesday evening, central USA time, Kristen’s friend died suddenly. It was later discovered she died due to internal hemorrhaging inside the brain. The interns had never considered the need to perform other critical standard scans and as a result of this lack of competency, a life was lost.
Afraid of the same result of malpractice and experience, our family made the decision to move Kristen to another hospital facility where proper scans and experienced doctors have isolated hemorrhaging within her brain as well as the previously identified injuries. Time is of the essence to save her life. This hospital, unfortunately, is not associated with government healthcare so all expenses to perform the needed surgeries will be out of pocket. She will require plastic reconstructive surgery for her facial fractures, surgery for her broken collarbones, wrists, hands, and feet. She will also most likely need surgery for her brain hemorrhaging. Any donations received will be given directly to offset medical costs as well as buying a plane ticket for my wife to be by her mother’s side.
thank you for any gracious gift!
