In July 2023, after an emergency surgery to remove his appendix, Mark was diagnosed with Stage IV Signet Ring Cell Mucinous Adenocarcinoma. Appendix cancer is EXTREMELY rare and often diagnosed at an advanced stage, which makes treatment more complex and emotionally taxing. Since Mark’s diagnosis, his life has changed dramatically; and so has his family’s.
Never one to back down from a fight, Mark has battled every day since his diagnosis. Chemotherapy treatments, additional surgeries, and still MORE chemotherapy, he has fought hard through it all while still thinking only of his family. His wife, Jessica, and their four children, aged 18 (just finished his freshman year of college), 17 (just finished his junior year of high school), and 7-year-old twin girls, have all been affected by this as well.
Despite the pain, the treatments, the surgeries, and the overwhelming challenges, he continues to show incredible strength and courage – for his wife and kids. But the reality is that this battle has taken a serious toll, not just physically and emotionally, but financially. For years Mark did what he loved, working within the communities where he lived, with nonprofit organizations, with schools and sports teams, doing what he loved. Capturing those special and important moments with his camera. But in order to focus on his health, Mark was forced to sell his beloved photography business.
