I’ve started this online fundraiser because a recent spinal injury has put me in the hospital and left me facing a challenging and uncertain recovery process.
Before all of this, I was deeply involved in advocacy and activism—work that gave me purpose and kept me grounded. Whether I was fighting for justice, supporting survivors, or helping to create more equitable spaces, showing up for others was a core part of who I am. But right now, I can’t do any of that. The severity of this injury has taken that ability from me—for now. My body simply isn’t able to keep up with the work I love.
While admitted to the hospital, we hoped that surgery might offer some relief. But because of the risks tied to my underlying health conditions, my care team ultimately determined it was too unsafe. Instead, I received spinal injections, which unfortunately worsened the pain. We’re now looking into a procedure called radiofrequency ablation (RFA) as a potential next step. In the meantime, I’m managing ongoing pain, limited mobility, and the daily realities of a long recovery—all while navigating the financial stress that comes with it.
I’m starting this fundraiser to help cover the essential costs that insurance doesn’t fully cover—things that are critical to my recovery and day-to-day functioning, including:
Physical therapy to rebuild strength and mobility
Radiofrequency ablation (RFA) procedure costs
Ongoing spinal injections and pain management treatments
Basic living expenses while I’m unable to work
Transportation to and from medical appointments
Asking for help has never come naturally to me, but right now, I truly need it. This recovery is more than I can manage on my own—physically, emotionally, and financially. Every donation, no matter the amount, helps lift a little of that weight. Even $1 makes a difference.
I miss being out in the world, using my voice, showing up for others. I’m doing everything I can to get back there. Thank you for your support.
With love and gratitude,
Kenz
