My sister Kasie is a mother, a daughter, a friend. She has always been a role model, an incredible nurse, a workout fanatic, and a gal with a great sense of humor. Now, Kasie has another title to add to the list – a fighter.
Just two months ago, Kasie was back in Boston enjoying time with family and friends. In a matter of a few short weeks, her life changed completely.
Following a doctor’s recommendation, a routine visit quickly turned into a whirlwind of scans, biopsies, and then the news that no one ever wants to hear: cancer. Kasie was diagnosed with Stage 2 Breast Cancer. With extraordinary courage and a strong support system, a thorough treatment plan was in place and she began chemotherapy.
She was determined to tackle cancer head-on. Yet, her journey has been anything but straightforward.
After her second round of treatment, Kasie was suddenly hospitalized with excruciating pain. More tests, more imaging, more uncertainty upon her and her husband, Joe, ultimately led to the discovery that Kasie had developed sepsis. Sepsis is a severe and life-threatening condition, placing Kasie in the ICU. Her condition has been filled with uncertainty and fear for her loved ones.
Fortunately, Kasie is in the hands of some incredibly supportive providers and a wonderful interdisciplinary team as she continues this medical journey. Although her progress is not linear, she has made steady improvements with her time in the hospital.
She continues to be monitored and hopes to transfer out of the ICU soon. This setback has taken an enormous toll — physically, emotionally, and financially. The road ahead will involve additional therapies, surgeries, and a long recovery process.
We are raising funds to help cover Kasie’s ongoing and future medical treatment so she can focus on getting better and resume her most important job, raising her three beautiful children.
Your support means everything to Kasie, Joe, and the little ones — whether it’s through a donation, a share, or simply keeping the Charleton family in your thoughts. Every little bit helps lighten the burden and lets her focus on what matters: crushing this fight against cancer.
With love and endless gratitude,
Haleigh & The Charleton Family
