Hi everyone, for those that don’t know me, I’m Yelaiskay, but friends & family know me as July/Yelly. I am 22 & was recently diagnosed with a genetic condition called Keratoconus in both of my eyes. To simply put it, a condition which causes degeneration & abnormalities with my sclera & eye shape.
Just a few months ago, I was taken into emergency care because the vision in my right eye went completely fuzzy. I developed a form of keratoconus called ‘Corneal Hydrops’. It’s like a cloud took over my eye and I wasn’t able to see clearly at all.
After months of having trouble looking for an ophthalmologist that specializes in keratoconus services, I was able to find a corneal specialist that could provide me with treatment options. The options I was given were ‘Scleral Lenses’, which are a hard lens to be worn routinely &/or Corneal Transplant.
Thankfully, I was able to book an appointment this June to start my process for hard lenses & start my journey at healing my eyes. However, I have been informed that due to unknown circumstances, insurance will not cover my treatment. I will have to pay out of pocket for both my fitting exam & for each hard lens.
To those that know me, know that I make light-hearted jokes about not being able to see, but the truth is I am quite frankly legally blind. Any donations at all would tremendously help me going into this treatment process and the aftercare process as well! I truly appreciate anyone’s time for reading or sharing this & I couldn’t be more grateful for the support I have received as well <3
