Hi everyone, my name is Jennifer. I’m the eldest daughter of Francisco and Maria Barra, and I have four wonderful siblings: Jess, Gabi, Emanuel, and Nathalia.
On May 9th, our lives changed forever. Our beloved father and my sister Gabi were involved in a devastating motorcycle accident. Gabi, though injured, was thankfully conscious and able to call my mom immediately after the crash. We rushed to the hospital, terrified and uncertain of what we would find.
Gabi sustained serious but manageable injuries and was admitted to the ICU at Bayonet Point for monitoring. Our father, however, was in critical condition and was transported to St. Joseph’s Main, where he underwent emergency surgery for catastrophic injuries to his pelvis and internal organs, including his rectum and bladder.
His surgery lasted over 7 hours, and doctors described the damage as some of the worst they’ve seen. After surgery, he was placed in a medically induced coma to prepare him for a series of additional procedures. On May 11th, the doctors began reconstructing his pelvis, and he was placed on strict bedrest with no weight-bearing for 10 weeks. His injuries are extensive, including a severe perineal wound, which is still healing.
Currently, our dad has a wound vac, two nephrostomies, three Foley catheters, and a temporary colostomy bag. We still don’t know if the colostomy can be reversed. Despite all of this, he is fighting—he’s awake now, speaking softly, and showing strength every day.
While his recovery has been remarkable so far, there’s still a long road ahead. He has not walked yet, and doctors are unsure if he’ll ever walk the same—or return to work.
Our dad has always been our provider, working tirelessly since he was 14 years old to support our family. Now, it’s our turn to support him. Medical bills are mounting, and with him unable to work, we’re doing everything we can as a family to stay afloat.
We are humbly asking for your support—whether through donations, sharing this fundraiser, or keeping our family in your prayers. Every bit of help makes a difference.
Our dad is the heart of our family. A selfless, devoted man who always put his wife, children, and grandchildren first. He didn’t deserve this, and we are determined to help him heal without the burden of financial stress.
We are endlessly grateful for the love, prayers, meals, and support we’ve already received. Thank you for standing with us as we fight to bring our dad back to health.
With love and gratitude,
Jennifer & the Barra Family ❤️
