Chenchen is a three-year-old boy from Chaoyang City, China, who was born with a severe cleft lip and palate. His father remains unknown. His mother left him at a care center, paid for two months of care, and then disappeared. With the help of the government, she was later contacted, but she has since remarried and is pregnant again. She has no job and is financially dependent on her husband. Given these circumstances, Chenchen is, in reality, an abandoned child with no one to support him.
In response, volunteers, including myself, have come together since March 2025 to care for him, providing for his daily needs such as food, shelter, and medical attention.
Chenchen still does not have a stable place to live. Since March 2025, he was found in a care center for people with disabilities, where it was clear he had not been well cared for. His clothes were dirty, he couldn’t get nutritious food or receive any love, and his eyes were filled with fear. In June, the volunteers hired a nanny to take care of him, and he has since been living with her and her family.
Chenchen has one of the most severe forms of cleft lip and palate. He will need at least four surgeries. This year, he will need to travel to Shanghai or Xi’an for the first procedure, but he is not yet healthy enough to undergo surgery. Due to the feeding difficulties caused by his condition and prolonged neglect, he is severely malnourished and suffers from serious anemia. We are working hard to improve his nutrition and overall health so that he can meet the requirements for this life-changing operation within the year.
He still cannot speak and can only make sounds like “ah.” It will only be possible for him to start learning to talk after completing several surgeries. Therefore, ongoing speech therapy will be needed in the future.
The goal of this fundraiser is to support the cost of his foster care, his surgeries, travel, and the ongoing care Chenchen will need afterward. Chenchen was born into hardship. Every penny you donate will help him move one step closer to health and happiness.
