Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,
We are reaching out with heavy hearts and urgent hope to share the story of my dear friend, a courageous young man, Angel Hernandez, who has been battling leukemia for the past year and a half. A dedicated student, aspiring lawyer, and a young man with a brilliant future ahead of him, Angel was struck by an unexpected and life-altering illness that forced him to leave school and undergo intense medical treatments.
A few months ago, after what seemed like a major breakthrough, Angel received the incredible news that he was in remission. His treatments had been successful, and he was cleared to return to normal life—he could go out to eat, spend time with friends and family, and he was even able to graduate from high school. His plans included attending in person classes at Arizona State University (ASU) for his first year of college. He had worked so hard to get to this point, and it seemed like his dreams of studying political science and eventually becoming a lawyer were within reach.
But unfortunately, his road to recovery has taken another devastating turn.
Angel is now back in the hospital in critical condition due to a pancreatic infection, which has caused complications with his heart and impaired kidney function. In addition, his lungs have been affected because he also contracted COVID-19. This sudden health crisis has put his life at risk and left his family in deep uncertainty.
While Angel fights for his life, his mother—entirely devoted to his care—has had to leave her job to care for him and her two younger children full-time. Because of this situation, the family is facing an enormous financial burden at the worst possible moment.
We are asking for your support—whether through donations, sharing this campaign, or sending your thoughts and prayers—to help ease the weight of these overwhelming challenges. All funds raised will go directly toward covering any medical and living expenses, as well as emergencies for his mother, who cannot work while staying by Angel’s side during this critical time.
Angel is a young man who has shown tireless determination, an unwavering work ethic, and a genuine passion for helping others. As a National Merit Scholar, he was accepted into ASU to study political science, with the dream of later attending Berkeley and using his law degree to advocate for justice. He is someone who not only dreams big but works relentlessly to turn those dreams into reality.

Nos dirigimos a ustedes con el corazón en la mano y una esperanza urgente para compartir la historia de mi querido amigo, un joven valiente llamado Ángel Hernández, quien ha estado luchando contra la leucemia durante el último año y medio. Un estudiante dedicado, aspirante a abogado y joven con un futuro brillante por delante, Ángel fue sorprendido por una enfermedad inesperada y devastadora que lo obligó a dejar la escuela y someterse a intensos tratamientos médicos.
Hace unos meses, después de lo que parecía un gran avance, Ángel recibió la increíble noticia de que estaba en remisión. Sus tratamientos habían sido exitosos y le dieron permiso para volver a una vida normal: podía salir a comer, pasar tiempo con amigos e incluso pudo graduarse de la High School y dentro de sus planes está asistir a clases presenciales en la Universidad Estatal de Arizona (ASU) en su primer año de universidad. Angel había trabajado muy duro para llegar a ese punto, y parecía que sus sueños de estudiar ciencias políticas y eventualmente convertirse en abogado estaban al alcance.
Pero, lamentablemente, su camino hacia la recuperación ha dado un giro devastador.
Ángel está nuevamente hospitalizado en estado crítico debido a una infección en el páncreas, lo que ha causado complicaciones en el corazón y que sus riñones no estén trabajando adecuadamente, además sus pulmones están afectados debido a que también contrajo Covid. Esta crisis de salud repentina ha puesto su vida en riesgo y tiene a su familia en una profunda incertidumbre.
Mientras Ángel lucha por su vida, su madre, completamente dedicada a su cuidado, se ha visto obligada a dejar su trabajo para cuidar de él y de sus dos hijos menores a tiempo completo. Debido a esta situación, la familia enfrenta una enorme carga financiera en el peor momento posible.
Estamos pidiendo su apoyo, ya sea a través de donaciones, compartiendo esta campaña o enviando sus pensamientos y oraciones, para ayudar a aliviar el peso de estos desafíos abrumadores. Los fondos recaudados se destinarán directamente a cubrir los gastos médicos y de subsistencia, así como emergencias para su madre, quien no puede trabajar mientras permanece al lado de Ángel en este momento crítico.
Ángel es un joven que ha demostrado una determinación incansable, una ética de trabajo inquebrantable y una pasión por ayudar a los demás. Como becario del Programa Nacional de Mérito, fue aceptado en ASU para estudiar ciencias políticas, con la esperanza de asistir a Berkeley y usar su título en derecho para defender la justicia. Es alguien que no solo sueña en grande, sino que trabaja arduamente para hacer realidad esos sueños.
