Stand By Joe: A Heartfelt Call for Help

This is Joe Hollister, he is a 53-year-old man who has always tried to help others. Mr. Joe took a job as a caregiver for a 91-year-old gentleman and was really enjoying his work. He did so well that the man’s daughter asked him to take a pay cut and accept a live-in position. It seemed like a great fit, so he gave up his apartment and moved in. Two months into the new life, things were going well. Mr. Joe had been suffering with a hernia for a couple of years, and he also had a lot of extra skin from massive weight loss. His boss lady, whom he had shared his life story with and who knew that Joe was without support, insisted that Joe have this dual surgery. She insisted that she had everything covered, including someone to look after her dad while Joe recovered there at the house. She drove Joe to the hospital the morning of the surgery, walked in, and assured him everything would be okay. After the surgery, Joe contacted his boss lady, and she informed him that he was not allowed back at the house and he was fired. Joe was devastated on many levels. He was, of course, suddenly homeless, but he was also worried about the old man he had been caring for. He reminded Joe of his dad.

Joe, now after 14 days in the hospital and a second surgery, was leaving the hospital homeless. On top of everything, his boss lady had convinced him to sign power of attorney over to her in case he was unable to make decisions for himself and became his healthcare surrogate as well. As far as we know, she had no intention of helping Joe; she tricked him into signing over everything he owned. Now, Mr. Joe is living in a garage of a friend in Florida. It’s summer here, and we are trying to help Joe raise funds to pay his bills for the next six months or so while he recovers. He left the hospital with a large hole in his stomach, he has to wear a wound vacuum all the time, and the heat is unbearable. Please donate to help a good man who has always tried to help others. Summer in Florida is rough, and we could use your help taking care of Mr. Joe.

Tranding Fundraisers

I’ve created this fundraiser on behalf of my dear friends, Sarah and James, who are enduring every parent’s worst nightmare — the loss of their beloved son, Leo.

We’re heartbroken to share that our dear friend Alex passed away far too soon. His light, his laughter, his incredible spirit — they touched so many, and his absence is deeply felt.

Hi everyone — Angela here, writing on behalf of Matthew (for now). On December 6th, completely out of the blue, Matthew suffered a severe stroke.
