Sheri, already an above knee amputee, was diagnosed over a year and a half ago with Stage II T3 HER 2 Positive Estrogen Positive Breast Cancer. There were 6 rounds of aggressive chemotherapy, a double mastectomy, 14 more rounds of treatment, and overwhelming side effects.
Just after chemo ended in January, February brought an infection requiring surgery to save her remains leg and her life.
The past few months have required visits to Infectious Disease Specialists, Surgical Podiatrists, Wound Care Specialists, In Home IV Infusion Nurses, and continued visits to Oncology and regular physicians with added costs from deductibles, copays, extensive prescriptions and wound care supplies. These costs will continue until the grafts finally heal. The infection also delayed reconstructive surgery which is now scheduled for September. Reconstruction will require biweekly follow ups at Penn State Hershey for months following tissue expander placement and will continue until final implant surgery.
As you can imagine, extra medical expenses really affect an already stretched thin single income household. Any donation, whether by fundraiser, Venmo, or gift card would help relieve the constant worry about bills and help them catch up things that are falling behind because of the extra expenses. Hopefully, the light at the end of the tunnel will come for this family that has had more than their share of setbacks. If you can’t donate, prayers are always welcome and appreciated!
