Hello, our names are Caitlin and Kevin, and unfortunately, last night our German Shepherd mix, Ragnar, suffered from GVD (Gastric Dilatation Volvulus), more commonly known as bloat. That is when the stomach flips and can get twisted up, and can be fatal if not treated. Kevin and I rushed Ragnar to the hospital in Ames, as there was not a surgical team available in Des Moines. We paid upfront the required expenses, but we foresee there will be future expenses we will have trouble covering, especially with paying our bills and continuing to treat Ragnar’s condition.
Thank you so much for reading our story and considering helping. Your support—whether through a donation or simply sharing this page—means everything to us. We also hope this helps spread awareness for deeper-chested dogs and to be very careful and look for signs of bloat. Thank you again for taking the time to read our story and for your kindness. We are very hopeful that Ragnar is gonna make a full recovery.
