Tom, a devoted husband to Jessica and loving father to 10-month-old Charlotte, was in a horrific dirtbike accident on May 30, 2025. What started as a family ride on the Colorado-Utah border quickly turned into a nightmare. Despite being an experienced rider and going only about 20 mph, riding safely with a helmet, and conscious of all safety precautions, still, Tom sustained serious and unexpected life-altering injuries.
Tom was immediately flight-for-life transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Junction, where he was admitted to the ICU. For four harrowing days, he was on a ventilator, fighting for every breath. He was diagnosed with a severe Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), including Diffuse Axonal Injury, as well as multiple brain bleeds (parenchymal, intraventricular, subdural and subarachnoid hemorrhages), along with a broken shoulder blade, collar bone, and four broken ribs.
His recovery has been challenging. While in the ICU, he developed pneumonia from the ventilator, extending his stay. After being moved to the general floors, he then battled a GI infection caused by the antibiotics used to clear the pneumonia. Yesterday, 13 days after his accident, Tom was finally stable enough to begin the long road of rehabilitation. He’s now working diligently with occupational, physical, and speech therapists to regain function and heal from his extensive injuries.
This tragic accident has placed an immense burden on Tom and his family, especially because Tom does not have health insurance. As a dedicated small business owner, he and Jessica recently poured their efforts into starting a new venture on the Western Slope, helping people navigate home foreclosures. Now, with Tom unable to work, their new business, and their family’s financial stability, are at severe risk.
