Melanie’s Fight for Sight at Duke

Hi, my name is Melanie Boyd. Back around 2009, I was having issues with my vision. I went to have my eyes looked at, and they said I needed glasses. So, I got glasses and come to find out I was misdiagnosed on the prescription. I had what we thought were cataracts, but it was just nearsightedness, farsightedness, and a lazy eye. Then, as years passed, it got even worse. Several years ago, I went to be rechecked by another eye doctor because I was becoming blind as a bat. The doctor said I was a 2800 in my right eye, which is blind. Glasses will not do me any good. They referred me to a specialist. They said I have carcinoma in my right eye, which would eventually go to my left eye. I have severe dry eyes, so I can’t have a transplant. They started me on expensive contacts, but that didn’t work out. So, I’ve been squinting badly, trying to see as best as possible. Just recently, like almost 2 weeks ago, I went to be seen about possible surgery. That doctor did several tests. He said he can’t do anything because my corneas are both bulged out badly. So, he’s referred me to Duke University Hospital to a surgeon there to see what he says. There’s a big chance I can regain vision through surgery there. They’d add cornea tissue to my eyes to help reshape my corneas. Once that happens, I can start wearing glasses. I’m not sure of the exact cost and all, but I was told it’s not cheap. I’m 48 and I’m so blind. I need my vision back. It’s been way too long. It’s bad and sad. I’ve missed so many years of bad vision. I just want to gain vision. If you find it in your heart to donate, I’d greatly appreciate it. I just want to get started on trying to raise some funds before they call me to come see them. God bless ✝️

Tranding Fundraisers

I’ve created this fundraiser on behalf of my dear friends, Sarah and James, who are enduring every parent’s worst nightmare — the loss of their beloved son, Leo.

We’re heartbroken to share that our dear friend Alex passed away far too soon. His light, his laughter, his incredible spirit — they touched so many, and his absence is deeply felt.

Hi everyone — Angela here, writing on behalf of Matthew (for now). On December 6th, completely out of the blue, Matthew suffered a severe stroke.
