Hey everyone! My name’s Matt Casto. I’m 31 years old, married with 2 kids. Currently working around 40 hours a week for a garbage company. Pays well. Gives me what I need. Only problem is I don’t have insurance. I was born with a condition called a congenital Chopart amputation. Without all the medical jargon, basically, I was born without the front half of my foot.
I have been wearing an Ankle-Foot Orthotic (AFO) for roughly 15 or so years, but it’s been about 10 since I’ve had a new one. I’m supposed to get a new one every 3 to 5 years, and the one I have currently has become a very expensive chew toy for my dog. I’m not sure how much a new one costs, so I’m pretty sure I’m over asking here, but I also have to think about visit costs, consultation, fitting the AFO, and all.
I previously had full coverage Medicaid but it was taken away when I started working full-time around 10 years ago. I’ve been making do with the one I have, but after my dog chewed both straps off and needing to hold it on with Ace bandages, the only thing it’s useful for now is helping me not lose my shoe while I’m working. I appreciate even the consideration to help!
