Kelly’s Fight Against Leiomyosarcoma

Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted strangers,

We are reaching out on behalf of our amazing friend, Kelly Hartley.

On April 21st, what was expected to be a routine hysterectomy to remove a fibroid cyst turned into something much more serious: a diagnosis of Leiomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer. During surgery, her doctor called in an oncologist/gynecologist to ensure everything possible was done, and thankfully, they were able to remove the entire tumor.

A PET scan on May 7th came back clear, which was a huge relief, but the fight is far from over. On May 8th, Kelly met with a specialist who confirmed the diagnosis and strongly recommended further treatment to prevent any recurrence.

Thanks to the incredible team at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Kelly now has a plan in place: 18 weeks of preventative chemotherapy. Because of the intense treatment and the risk of infection, especially given her profession working with children, Kelly will be taking a leave of absence from work. She will undergo a hybrid treatment plan—receiving chemo at home and traveling to Houston every 6 weeks for scans and checkups.

As you can imagine, the cost of flights, accommodations, medical bills, and missed work is overwhelming. That’s why we, her community of family and friends, are asking for help.

Kelly has always been the strongest and most generous soul we know—so of course she would end up with a rare cancer. That’s just her kind of “special.” But no one should have to face this alone, and Kelly is not alone.

If you’re able, please consider donating to help ease the financial burden during this fight. Every dollar counts—and every share, prayer, and kind word means the world.

We love you, Kelly. You’ve got an army behind you.

With gratitude,

Friends & Family of Kelly
