Hello, my name is Kai! I am hoping to raise money for my top surgery coming up in September. This surgery is a significant step in my gender journey. Without insurance, the estimated cost is approximately $5,200. While I am actively negotiating with my insurance provider to determine their coverage, there will likely be a substantial portion I’ll need to cover out-of-pocket.
Every dollar raised will directly contribute to my surgery costs. However, any funds remaining after my surgery expenses are met will be donated to organizations supporting gender-affirming surgeries for other transgender and gender nonconforming individuals. I am committed to transparency and will share proof of these donations on my social media.
If you’d like to know more about me: I work as an undergraduate academic advisor at Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas. I am blessed to be able to advise my own majors and interests — Arts, Communication, and Education. I graduated from Lamar with a Bachelor’s in English in 2020 and a Master’s in English Lit in 2022. Currently, I am working on a Master’s in History because I can’t seem to stop learning. Beyond my current work, my ultimate goal is to teach both English literature and History at the high school and college levels, as I believe these subjects are intrinsically linked.
My scholarly pursuits include ancient mythologies, literature, and history and how they connect with contemporary queer identities and challenges. The aim in my research is to shed light on the historical and cultural contexts that have shaped LGBTQ+ experiences, highlighting queerness as a continuous part of human existence.
Outside of my academic pursuits, I enjoy reading science fiction and fantasy novels, spending time with my wife, and listening to K-pop and metal, as well as chasing my three rambunctious cats around the apartment.
