On June 9th, our family’s life was turned upside down when my uncle, Jose Castro, was critically injured in a serious vehicle accident on the Antioch-Pittsburg Highway. What initially appeared to be a two-vehicle crash involving his 1997 Chevy pickup and a black Chevy Tahoe has now been determined to have been caused by a 15- or 16-year-old male driving a Nissan, who fled the scene at high speed toward downtown Pittsburg.
Jose was transported to a trauma center in critical condition. He is now beginning the long road to recovery. As the primary provider for his household, his injuries have placed an incredible emotional and financial strain on our family. While we are grateful he survived, he will be unable to work for the foreseeable future.
My aunt is now left trying to manage medical expenses, rent, and daily living costs on her own. We are doing everything we can to support them, but we are asking our community, friends, and anyone able to help whether through donations, resources, or simply sharing our story to please support us during this incredibly difficult time.
If you or someone you know has resources to offer legal assistance, financial aid, or community support we would deeply appreciate your help. Thank you for your compassion and support as we rally around Jose in his fight to heal and rebuild.
Sincerely,
Ruby Martinez
