Nathan was a surprise baby who continues to fill us with surprises. Nathan was diagnosed with Pulmonary Atresia with intact VSD when he was just 20 weeks during his anatomy ultrasound. Nathan has been admitted in the NICU since birth, with his first heart procedure at 3 days old to widen his PDA and was also on prostaglandin therapy. Two days post-cardiac cath, Nathan suffered from left-sided heart failure, which affected his kidneys and liver. His planned heart surgery was put on hold until his kidneys recovered and got better. On top of his heart condition, Nathan was receiving blood transfusions and developed ascites all while in the NICU. Nathan was transferred to the CICU once his ascites and kidneys recovered and was safe for surgery. On May 14th, Nathan went into surgery for his BT shunt and to have his PDA removed. Nathan is still in the CICU, he is struggling to gain weight and eat (drink) by mouth. His blood pressure is still high. We can’t bring him home until he masters the art of eating (drinking) and gains some weight. We are now on day 70 of Nathan being in the hospital, and we are anticipating that he will stay for another month. Nathan will require two more surgeries, with the second surgery at 6 months, which is the GLENN procedure. Thank you all for your continued thoughts and prayers and ask to continue praying for him. Thank you also for your support and the great influences of our family and friends who suggested this for our heart warrior Nathan.
