Dear friends, family, and kind-hearted supporters,
We have the most exciting news to share — after a long wait, Xavier has been selected to receive his very own diabetic alert dog! This incredible companion will not only be Xavier’s newest best friend, but also a life-saving partner, helping him live a safer, more independent life as he manages Type 1 diabetes every single day.
Xavier is 8 years old and was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2020, about 3 months after his 4th birthday. Life since then has been a constant balancing act. Type 1 diabetes never takes a break — not during school, not while he sleeps, not even while he plays. It’s a 24/7 roller coaster (and not the fun kind), with finger pokes, insulin doses, site changes, highs and lows, and an endless stream of careful calculations.
But now, hope has arrived in the form of a furry, four-legged hero.
Diabetic alert dogs are specially trained to detect dangerous changes in blood sugar — often before a device or even a person notices something is wrong. They can alert caregivers, retrieve help, and provide peace of mind that technology alone can’t always give. Most of all, they offer freedom and confidence that every child deserves.
These dogs undergo intensive, specialized training that comes with a steep price — typically between $20,000 and $30,000. We are so grateful that the amazing organization working with us is covering a large portion of the cost, but there is still a remaining gap we need to fill in order to bring Xavier’s dog home.
We’re reaching out to our village — to you — to help us cross the finish line. Every donation, no matter the size, gets us one step closer to giving Xavier the gift of greater independence, safety, and confidence.
Thank you for being part of Xavier’s journey. Your support means more than we can say.
With love and so much gratitude,
Vanessa and Xavier!
