Richy, a healthy and active man with no prior conditions, is in ICU in Bali after a sudden, life threatening diabetic ketoacidosis episode. He needs support for urgent care and a safe return home to Australia.
Richard and his partner, Rebecca, were recently on a holiday in Bali when their world was suddenly turned upside down.
Richy — an incredibly fit, healthy, and active man with no prior health issues — became critically ill and was rushed to BMIC Hospital in Bali. He was diagnosed with a severe Diabetic Ketoacidosis (DKA) episode and admitted straight into the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) in a life-threatening condition.
This came as a complete shock to everyone who knows him. With no previous medical history or warning signs, the diagnosis was entirely unexpected.
Richard is still currently in the ICU, fighting hard and making slow but hopeful progress each day. He’s showing remarkable resilience, but his recovery journey will be a long one. He will need ongoing specialist care, monitoring, and support in the weeks and months ahead.
Because Richard had always been in excellent health, he, like many travellers, didn’t take out travel insurance. Unfortunately, the medical bills from emergency treatment, intensive care, and critical interventions are increasing rapidly.
Additionally, due to the seriousness of his condition, Richard may require medical assistance or specialised transport in order to return safely home to Australia.
This fundraiser has been created to help get Richard back to Australia where he can begin the next phase of his recovery. Any donations would be greatly appreciated. Thank you
