I’m About to Lose My Home, My Vet Clinic, and the Cats I Rescued. Any Help Is Welcome
My name is Renata. I’m 51 years old and a single mom. I’ve spent most of my life working with my hands, first as a hair stylist for decades and later as a veterinarian, after I followed my dream and graduated in 2020.
I built a small and humble veterinary practice in Brazil. I cared for animals, often for free, because I couldn’t turn them away. Two sick and terrified cats were abandoned at my clinic door. I took them in and they are still with me. Right now, they are all I have left.
But now I’m facing the hardest moment of my life and I’m begging for help.
What Happened
I’ve been suffering from severe hemorrhaging due to menopause. Without insurance, I only get medical attention when it becomes an emergency. A few weeks ago, I fainted, hit my head, and broke my finger. Since then, I haven’t been able to work. I have photos of my injuries and condition if needed.
I tried everything I could to keep my practice running. Out of desperation, I took a 600 dollar loan just to survive. Unfortunately, it was from a loan shark who charges 20 percent interest per month. I haven’t been able to repay it and the loan is already overdue by almost two months. I am scared and overwhelmed and I need to pay it by June 10 to avoid serious consequences.
Now, I’ve also been told I must leave my rental home by June 16. I have no savings, no income, and no way to cover even the cost of food. I can’t afford to paint the house before I leave, which is required, and I have nowhere else to go.
What I’m Asking For
I’m hoping to raise 3,000 US dollars to:
• Pay off the loan shark before the debt increases or something worse happens: $1000
• Find a safe place to stay: $800
• Cover basic medical care and food for myself and my two cats: $1000
• Handle moving costs and avoid further penalties: $200
My hope was to be able to keep my clinic, but I would need an additional 1,000 dollars to make it through the next month while my hand is still immobilized. I feel bad even asking for this amount, but I am trying to be honest about what it would take to stabilize.
How You Can Help
Even a small donation helps, especially toward the loan, which is what scares me most. I have spent my life helping animals and people. I never imagined I would be here, afraid for my safety and struggling just because I tried to keep doing what I love.
I feel deeply sad and disappointed that it has come to this. I just want a second chance or at the very least a little relief so I can sleep without fearing for my life. I want to work, to live with dignity, and to keep my cats safe.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart
Renata, Veterinarian
PS 1.: I am being as open as I can without sharing too much personal information. I am still afraid about this debt and ashamed to be in this situation. I have almost no family support. My son is all I have and he has done everything he can, including helping me set this up.
PS 2.: This campaign is organized by Renata’s son. The funds will be sent directly to support her in Brazil. She is currently unable to access fundraiser herself, but I will ensure that every donation goes toward her rent, loan, medical care, and food and addition to everything else I can do financially and otherwise to help her get through this.
