Owen is my 20 year old son. He just spent the past few days in the ICU. He already has a severe case of diabetes type 1. He frequently goes into episodes of Diabetes ketogenic acideous. This last episode, that’s what we thought it was. But something in my gut told me that it wasn’t his normal case. Turns out mother’s intuition was right. He developed a case of Hypertriglyceridemia. Normally, your tryglycerides are below 500. Owen’s is severe 2,000. This puts him at risk of developing pancreatitis, or worse a fatal heart attack. His father died from a heart attack at age 36. As of right now, our plans is to treat this aggressive with meds and diet and lifestyle changes. Some of the meds can be quite expensive. He does have insurance, but as you know everything is kind of up in the air right now and I really don’t know what is going to happen. I’m going to have to not work so I can watch Owen and get him back to health. Anything helps at this point.
