Dear friends, family, and compassionate hearts,
My name is Marie Vasquez, many of you know me as Ms. Marie. I have taught Early Childhood Education in Espanola Public School and at Ohkay Owingeh Community School for over 23 years. Teaching has always been more than a job. It’s been my calling, my joy, and my purpose, but recently my journey has taken an unexpected turn. I’ve been diagnosed with Vocal Cord Dysfunction, which has deeply affected my ability to speak. Something vital not only to my profession but how I connect with my little students each day.
Lack of energy has affected me tremendously. I have always been a very active part in my grandbabies’ lives. I find myself unable to keep up with these active babies. Simple household chores are now a big challenge for me. My love for working on my yard has diminished.
For the past year, I have undergone various treatments, but sadly none have worked. Now my doctors are sending me to the National Jewish Hospital in Denver, Colorado, where I will undergo over 15 tests during an eight-day span in hopes of finding an effective solution. While I am holding onto hope, the cost of travel and hotel accommodations has become a heavy burden on my single-income household. That’s why I’m asking for your support, whether through a donation, a share, or simply a prayer. Your kindness can make all the difference in helping me get the care I need and return to the classroom stronger than ever.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for walking with me during this very difficult time.
With gratitude,
Marie Vasquez
