My mother, Kristine (Kris) Peterson was recently admitted to the hospital for an unknown illness. What started as nausea and vomiting, has developed into something much worse.
My mother is currently battling an infection which has led to pericardial and pleural effusion (fluid in the heart and lung cavities), hypotension (low blood pressure), and hypoxemia (low levels of oxygen in the blood). Luckily, the doctors have her stabilized – she is currently on medication to increase her blood pressure, along with 30L/min of oxygen.
While she is currently stable, she has a long road to recovery. If she is able to fight off the infection, she will be faced with the consequences of severe respiratory illness, and may require to be on oxygen for an extended period of time.
At the moment, doctors are still trying to figure out what is causing the infection. All tests have came back as inconclusive, and her doctors are now working with the CDC to get answers.
It is too soon to know the full effect this infection will have on her, and whether or not she will need long-term care, or be able to continue working at the daycare she loves so much.
Any contribution, big or small, will make a meaningful difference and be deeply appreciated. If you’re unable to donate, please consider sharing this page and keeping Kris and her family in your thoughts and prayers.
