hey y’all, i’m kris, and i’m an 18-year-old transgender man who has been struggling with increasingly worse dysphoria for 5-6 years.
what started as questioning and consideration has grown into an urgent need for medical care that i simply cannot afford on my own, and i’m reaching out because i’m literally fighting for my future rn.
every morning i wake up and look at my reflection and hate what i see, especially knowing it could be marginally better if it weren’t for my chest.the constant stress and pain of living in a body that doesn’t align with my identity has reached a breaking point. top surgery isn’t cosmetic for me it’s medically necessary care that will allow me to finally feel like myself and improve my mental health dramatically.
i have no family support system and no insurance coverage, so i’m going through this this alone and not sure what i do. i’ve been working tirelessly, every day saving every dollar i can. so far, i’ve managed to save $1,500. but the total cost of surgery, including the procedure, anesthesia, facility fees, and recovery expenses, is approximately $8,000-$17,000. the current political climate in the US (especially the south where i live) has made accessing affordable transgender healthcare even more challenging for people like us. title x funding cuts have entirely eliminated support programs i might’ve been able to access through organizations like planned parenthood, leaving me with no options but to pay entirely out of pocket.
i’m not asking for your charity. i’m asking just for help and partnership while i work through this. i will continue working my main job + multiple side hustles and saving every penny no matter what, but at my current pace, it will take years to afford this surgery. years i’m not sure i can mentally handle. each day that passes makes the dysphoria harder to bear, affecting my ability to work, study in college, and live in general. every single dollar brings me closer to the day i can wake up and see myself in the mirror. 🙁
