I’m writing this in behalf of our immediate family, who would love to help in times of need but hate asking for help from others especially when we may need it.
For those of you who might not know, we all have been trying our best to help take care of our grandmother/ mother. This is something none of us were ready for yet all stepping in to help Karon.
For those who don’t know, back in 2019 my grandmother was diagnosed with stage 4 throat cancer. She has undergone multiple surgeries and treatments including chemotherapy, radiation, and having total neck dissections. Right before the start of covid in 2019 she was declared Cancer free. However as a result of having the throat cancer, it was too close to her voice box, so it was removed. Therefore losing her voice and ability to talk comfortably. She is now and has been for the last 6-7 years a total neck breather with a trache. Due to her older age, and the amount of things she has undergone within the last 8 years. She is now in need of hearing aids, that her insurance will not cover after the last 7 months.
The last seven months have been a hard roller coaster for all of us. With my grandmom being moved to three different hospitals, because they could not accommodate her or understand her needs due to having to write everything down because she is deaf and nonverbal. She has been to multiple floors within the hospitals including the intensive care unit, step down units, emergency rooms, and medical-surgical floors. During her stay at Jefferson Hospital, She had a cardiac arrest for four and a half minutes and suffered from having an anoxic brain injury. Thankfully they were able to bring her back, however with her being bed bound for three months, she had to learn how to do everything again physically and mentally. This included: walking, standing, writing, and even trying to correlate words together to form correct sentences.
Due to the mental toll this has caused for all of our family especially Karon we’re asking for assistance with helping her receive the hearing aids she’s finally willing to get. Please help us if you can it is absolutely greatly appreciated as Karon tries to take her life back as much as she can. It is within our intentions to improve her quality of life before she returns home from rehab.
Thank you,
Jennifer, Katelyn, Melissa, Rich, Michael, Dawn, Jessica & Kyle.
