Emily hasn’t shared this with a lot of people, mostly family and work, but she has been having problems with her ankle (the one that was crushed in the accident), neck, and back. She has been out of work since May 9th and as of right now has an ankle surgery scheduled for May 24th. Emily has to have a broken bone removed, her plantar faciitis released, and are cutting half her calf muscle to help lengthen the achilles tendon. She also has a tendon that needs to be put back in its original space so they have to dig a deep groove in the bone and put the tendon back in its place. After surgery Emily cannot walk or put any weight on her foot for 4-6 weeks. She will have to do aggressive physical therapy to retrain the muscles to walk again. Emily has also had immense nerve pain so they performed a nerve conduction study that came back abnormal. They found that she has carpal tunnel in both wrists and both rotator cuffs are in need of some repair. Emily has had an MRI on her neck, which we are waiting for the results, and will have another MRI on her back. Needless to say with all of this comes stress and anxiety. Emily’s family has been trying to make ends meet on their own, but with medical bills, a child, and normal household bills still coming in with only 1 income is starting to make it more difficult to make ends meet. I, Jana (Emily’s cousin), am asking that we all come together and help relieve some of these stresses financially. Everyone always says, If there is anything I can do to help, well this is how you can help. Anything is appreciated! Thank you and appreciate you all! I will continue to update this page as we get more answers from doctors and as Emily goes through this stressful medical journey.
