My sister-in-law, Dawn Sykes, has recently been diagnosed with stage 4 liver disease and A1A deficiency. She is being sent to UNC for treatment and genetic studies. Her gastro doctor told her she’s the only patient he has seen in his 26 years of practice that has A1A deficiency. She is enrolled in a clinical trial, and they want to do genetic testing on both sides of her family. She is a wife and mama to a 24-year-old and a 6-year-old little boy. She is a nana to a 4-month-old baby boy. She is the center of her family and keeps everybody grounded. She has had 5 appointments in the past 2 weeks and 3 more scheduled so far this month alone, not including the trips to UNC. Time missed from work, travel expenses, and medications are costly. Please consider helping this family through this difficult time.
