On June 10 we learned the devastating news that Connor’s cancer is back. His last surgery removed a large tumor from his chest, along with 7 ribs, a lobe of his lung, and portions of his diaphragm and pericardial lining. Connor was 6 when he was diagnosed and when he had his first surgery.
Despite the odds, Connor recovered. For the last two years Connor has been cancer free and proudly shares how he “Kicked Cancer’s Butt”!
Connor is now 9. This time he has a tumor on his spine. This cancer is aggressive and hard to treat. His L5 is significantly impacted, in fact it is nearly gone.
This week his amazing team from BC Children’s Hospital finalized his treatment plan. He will have a port put in for chemo treatment. They will start with 6 weeks of chemo, which will hopefully shrink the tumor and allow them to remove it. Then he will have additional chemo after the surgery. The risks from the cancer, chemo and surgery are numerous.
Connor has a big fight ahead of him. He is scared and this time he knows exactly what the treatment will be like. He needs his family there to support him, and one another. Connor is from Ladysmith. He doesn’t live near the specialist hospital where he is being treated (BC Children’s Hospital). Both of Connor’s parents (Mike and Caroline) are off work for the foreseeable future – it is an impossible task to replace two incomes, but we are hoping to help as much as we can. His brother Mark will be by his side again as well.
If you can support this family please do. Every contribution helps, no matter the size.
If you have questions you can message me here (I’m Vicki, Connor’s Auntie). We will post updates as Connor’s treatment progresses.
Thank you.
