Four Cancer Battles in One Family

Four Cancer Diagnoses. One Family. One Year. Please Help Auntie Letty’s Family in the Philippines Fight Back.

By Jen McCafferty

Imagine being 81 years old and watching cancer tear through your family — not once, not twice, but four times in just one year.

This is the heartbreaking reality for my Auntie Letty, who lives in the Philippines — a country where health insurance is not widely accessible, and families are often left to carry the full burden of medical expenses on their own.

It all began when her daughter-in-law was diagnosed with breast cancer. Despite her fight, she tragically passed away. Just months later, Auntie Letty’s granddaughter Theresa was diagnosed with Stage B4 cervical cancer. She went through chemotherapy and is now undergoing immunotherapy, still fighting for her life.

Then in January, her eldest daughter Bernadette received the devastating diagnosis of breast cancer that had already spread to her bones. She’s currently undergoing aggressive chemotherapy, facing both pain and uncertainty every day.

Just recently, Auntie Letty’s youngest daughter Ivy found a lump in her breast. After medical tests, doctors confirmed she will need to begin chemotherapy, followed by surgery, and they are now testing to see if the cancer has spread to her bones or internal organs.

Four women. One family. One devastating year.

This family’s strength is truly inspiring — but the financial toll is staggering. Cancer treatments in the Philippines are paid mostly out of pocket. With multiple family members undergoing treatment at the same time, the cost of chemotherapy, immunotherapy, scans, hospital stays, medications, and transportation has become unbearable.

I’m Jen McCafferty, and I’m organizing this fundraiser to help relieve some of that financial weight for Auntie Letty and her family. My goal is to raise $10,000 USD to help cover these urgent and ongoing medical expenses.

Please, if you’re able to give — any amount, big or small — it will make a difference. And if you’re unable to donate right now, simply sharing this page or keeping them in your prayers means the world.

Let’s rally together to give Auntie Letty’s family a fighting chance, and let them focus on healing instead of how they’re going to pay for it.

From the bottom of my heart — thank you for your kindness, generosity, and support.

Tranding Fundraisers

I’ve created this fundraiser on behalf of my dear friends, Sarah and James, who are enduring every parent’s worst nightmare — the loss of their beloved son, Leo.

We’re heartbroken to share that our dear friend Alex passed away far too soon. His light, his laughter, his incredible spirit — they touched so many, and his absence is deeply felt.

Hi everyone — Angela here, writing on behalf of Matthew (for now). On December 6th, completely out of the blue, Matthew suffered a severe stroke.
