Hello, my name is Brandee and this is my dog Oreo. On June 9th, 2025, Oreo had signs of pain and discomfort in her stomach. Later that night, around 11:00 pm, my sister and I took her to the emergency vet. Come to find out, the vet “thought” she was just backed up. We returned home with Oreo around 2:00 am with her still acting a little off.
The next day, we decided to get a second opinion on Oreo. We took her to her primary vet. They did X-rays on Oreo and blood work. Everything came back okay except that the X-ray showed something in her lower back was pressing on her spinal cord, making her legs go limp. The vet gave us options with medicine first to see if that would help Oreo’s back instead of going straight to surgery. The next morning, we noticed Oreo not being able to fully stand on her back paws/legs. We continued the medication for 2 days to see if Oreo would make progress. In those 2 days, she didn’t make any progress; she declined very fast. She had lost more mobility in her back legs, making her unable to stand or walk on them.
We went back to the vet and asked what we should further do for her, and the vet recommended a specialist (VCA) that can tell you what’s actually wrong with her. That would result in getting an MRI done along with seeing a neurologist, which is around 3,500 dollars. With that done, we would be able to see what’s wrong and we can move forward with getting her surgery done. The vet said those types of spinal cord surgeries can cost around 12,000 dollars, give or take.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. If you’re able to donate, thank you so much; my family and I appreciate it, and I know Oreo will too. If you’re not able to donate, that is totally okay; a simple share will do. I hope you guys have a great day. Every donation will go straight to her medical bills, getting poor Oreo back to 100% again.
