If you’ve met my family, you know that we are an unified bunch. We always have each others back, and when times are tough we are all hands on deck. We learned that from my father.
Oscar Vazquez Sr. has always been a provider, not only with his family, but his friends too. He will always figure out a way to help. Today with a humble heart I come, on behalf of my family, asking for help. Back in 2022, my dad suffered a stroke, and all Glory to God that did not stop him. He went to rehab to regain his strength and keep living. In 2023, after a routine check up doctors noticed that my dad had elevated AFP and was diagnosed with hepatic carcinoma due to cirrhosis. Again all glory to God, he kept going and has been fighting. In 2024, we found ourself with another road block. Due to his liver not functioning fully we went back into the hospital for hepatic encephalopathy, that’s were we really knew the severity of my father’s illness.
His kidneys started to decline and we were told that we should discuss hospice care. Doctors were saying that there was nothing we could unless he received a new liver and kidneys but with my dad’s history he probably wouldn’t be a candidate. We found ourselves not knowing what to do, so we called his oncologist in Houston and he suggested that he be evaluated for a transplant. What’s the worst that could happen? Right. Well again the Lord made a way and my dad was transferred to St. Luke’s in Houston to undergo liver transplant evaluation and after the case was reviewed, they listed him for liver and kidney transplant. God has been glorified this whole journey, He has placed each doctor and nurse exactly where He needed them to be. He has provided a way to get to where we are now, but the journey is not over. We are facing financial hardship, medical care is not cheap and even with insurance it’s a hole that keeps getting deeper.
With a humble heart, we as a family come to you. We know that times are tough for everyone, but if after reading this you feel in your heart to help, we thank you from the bottom of our heart. If you are not able to help monetarily, we understand we ask you for prayers and to share this. May God shine His face upon you, may He give us strength to keep fighting, not for ourselves but for His purpose, His will and his Glory.
