Help Me Heal After My Scooter Accident and Surgery
Hi, my name is Laura Jimenez, and I never imagined I’d be writing something like this.
On June 5th, while riding a scooter in Manhattan near 23rd Street and 8th Avenue, I was thrown off due to dangerously uneven road conditions between two manhole covers. I landed hard and suffered a double fracture in my forearm, breaking both the radius and ulna. The pain was immediate and overwhelming.
The next day, I underwent emergency surgery where doctors placed metal plates and screws to stabilize my bones. I had to stay in the hospital for two extra days because of extreme pain and a high risk of infection. I was discharged on June 8th, and now begin a difficult recovery process.
This all happened during a time that was supposed to be joyful — I was just about to celebrate my graduation, a moment I had worked so hard for. Instead, I’m now focused on healing, managing pain, and trying to keep up with medical needs.
I’m asking for your help because the costs are already building — prescription medications, follow-ups, therapy, and other out-of-pocket expenses that I simply can’t afford right now. I’ve set a goal of $5,000 to help cover these immediate and ongoing bills as I recover.
If you’re able to support in any way — by donating or sharing this — I would be incredibly grateful. Every bit of kindness truly helps right now.
With love and thanks,
Laura
