Dear friends and family, I am reaching out today in the hopes of raising funds for a wonderfully kind couple who are going through a very rough time. Emma and Andrew Cruz live in the Philippines. Emma is the sister of my step-mom, Edna. They are loving, compassionate, and kind people.
Four years ago, Emma became the main caretaker of her brother Jessie, who battled mental illness for over 35 years. She also became guardian to his 8-year-old daughter who then went to live with Emma and Andrew. Jessie passed away last November after a very short battle with lung cancer. Emma also became the secondary caretaker of her 94-year-old mother.
Last January, Emma had an abnormal mastectomy result. After several tests, she was diagnosed with an invasive breast cancer and had a mastectomy last April. While Emma was recovering from surgery, Andrew had an unexpected accident, falling into a 15-foot ravine behind their home. He sustained severe injuries and had to be hospitalized 3 times for a total of 3 weeks. He also has a heart condition and is under the care of a Cardiologist.
The family is facing huge financial expenses. Medical Insurance is not affordable in the Philippines. There is very little government assistance, so patients must pay outright for the majority of their medical expenses.
Emma started her first cycle of chemotherapy last week. She must undergo chemotherapy another three times, and must be placed on maintenance medicine for the next 12 months.
Although their total estimated expenses exceed 19K, we are asking for a goal of 10K to help both Emma and Andrew. Please, let us cheer on this dear family by contributing to their medical expenses. Please donate and/or share this link with others to help us reach this goal. Thank you and God bless!
