Good morning. My name is Ariel. I am raising awareness and hoping to help my dear friend Veronica and her precious 4-year-old brave daughter Brooklyn with medical bills and financial burden.
Brooklyn has spent last week, Monday through Friday, in Maria Ferrari Children’s Hospital battling a bad reaction on her left leg to an unknown bite/chemical reaction Thursday that caused MRSA to enter her body and cause an abscess late Saturday night. By Sunday, she was rushed to urgent care and received her first incision and drainage. Monday, she was her typical self till lunch, when she began dragging her leg and spiked a fever of 102.1. Veronica rushed her to the local hospital where the nightmare unfolded. This local hospital did an incision and drainage without having taken blood, urine, or sedated Brooklyn. After the failed first attempt, they brought in a second doctor who did an ultrasound and ordered an IV with ketamine. They stuck Brooklyn 5 times before getting the IV in. Mind you, they never took blood still. The first round of ketamine did not work, so they administered a second round. During this whole ordeal, Brooklyn was in between Veronica’s legs with blood everywhere. Once done, one doctor said they were discharged while another said transfer. Brooklyn was transported by ambulance late Monday to Westchester Medical and was admitted to Maria Ferrari to start vancomycin IV and pain management. This poor girl still screams and shakes in her sleep. Veronica can’t sleep unless Brooklyn is next to her. I will copy and paste her story. Insurance is refusing to pay for the local hospital and ambulance. Unsure of the outcome till Monday if Maria Ferrari or Westchester Medical stay 🙁 Veronica has been out of work this entire time and was in isolation till Thursday with Brooklyn. Brooklyn was finally discharged Friday afternoon. Define strong…it’s her!!! She ate just scraps of what was left over and water and never left Brookie’s side. Veronica will be out of work for another week as Brooklyn continues oral antibiotics and pain medications. Brooklyn cannot be in water/sand/grass or heck even around children as she has an open wound. Brooke has to stay in a diaper still till she can tolerate going on the toilet again without pain. The following week will be post-op visits, so more than likely Veronica will be out then too. FMLA takes a while to kick in if approved and only 67% of wages. She was just getting by as is with regular pay. Myself, family, and friends will continue to pray for Brooklyn’s health and healing. Any help is greatly appreciated.
