Hi everyone,
Over the past 8 months, I’ve faced an intense and exhausting journey of cancer treatment — including surgery, 16 rounds of chemotherapy, 15 rounds of radiation, and some serious complications like a pulmonary embolism and multiple urgent hospital visits. I’m still managing many side effects as I work to heal and get my life back on track.
It’s really hard for me to put on my “asking-for-help” hat (and trust me, it’s not as cute as my usual outfits!), but sometimes even the sparkliest Jolene needs a little backup. So here I am, doing my best, breaking out of my comfort zone, and asking for a hand — any bit helps, whether it’s cash, shares, or good energy!
I’m finally nearing the finish line. I’ve tackled most of this journey on my own — financially — but I’m facing some new challenges.
I’ve used up all my paid leave
Temporary disability payments have been delayed for nearly two months
And I’m now responsible for my full health insurance premium, which is about $1,400/month
Yes, you read that right, income is zero right now and expenses have gone up. I also need to keep up with basics like rent, utilities, and groceries, plus attend multiple medical appointments — sometimes as many as 8 in a week!
That’s why I’m reaching out for help — to cover my essential expenses and give me the breathing room I need to continue healing and rebuilding my life.
Your support would go directly toward:
Keeping my health insurance active
Staying housed and fed
Covering transportation and appointment-related costs
Providing food and treats for my cat, Holly, who’s been my rock through it all
Giving me the space to heal and get back to the vibrant life I love
A Little About Me
If you know me, you know I’m the one with the bright personality and even more exciting outfits — always ready to cheer people on, light up a space, and share my spark. I’ve spent years volunteering at festivals, community events, work committees, and Burning Man because connection and community fuel my spirit.
Now, as life throws me this curveball, I’m calling on that same energy (and maybe a little extra sparkle) to help me get through the next chapter.
If you can donate, share, or send good energy, I’m incredibly grateful. Every bit helps me get one step closer to stepping fully back into life on my own terms.
With love and gratitude,
Jolene
P.S. With a name like Jolene, I like to think Dolly Parton would tell me to keep on shining and never give up — so that’s exactly what I’m trying to do. A little grit, a little sparkle, and a whole lot of heart. Well, maybe she would if my name wasn’t Jolene. 😉
