it has been a long road with our 3 year old son and it continues as we navigate new obstacles. At just under two years old he fell ill for nearly 2 weeks straight and after multiple trips to the ER and his doctor they finally admitted us for further testing where they ran many tests and finally discovered he had a bad kidney and debris in his bladder. With him being so young we were referred to Phoenix children’s hospital over 2 hours away where they had more resources and specialists that could care for him. We have been making trips back and forth from Flagstaff to Phoenix since trying to understand this new diagnosis while also undergoing various other tests to determine a path forward all the while facing new challenges of autism diagnosis and trying to keep up with those appointments as well. Needless to say it has been exhausting but we have been facing it with as much positivity as possible. Recently we discussed and agreed on surgery to remove our son’s kidney which will happen in the children’s hospital in early July. We have been doing our best and getting by with everything that has come our way but are grateful for any help we can receive as we continue through this tough time. Surgery with a toddler is difficult already and with his special needs it means extra obstacles we need to take into account. We thank everyone for their support so far through this and the continued support. This is unfortunately not the end of his needs but this will be another step towards him staying happy and healthy!
