Olivia is a bright, resilient woman who has overcome more than her share of obstacles just to live authentically as a trans woman in the United States. She’s a dedicated worker, a loyal friend, and someone who greets the world with kindness despite how unkind the world has often been to her for being trans.
Last week, that cruelty turned violent.
While walking home from her job, Olivia was followed by a man who began shouting hateful slurs the moment he realized she was transgender. His rage escalated quickly. Near a quiet bus stop, he confronted her, threatened her, and stabbed her in the side before fleeing the scene. Thankfully a teenage bystander bravely stepped in and called for help.
Olivia survived emergency surgery, but her journey is far from over. She faces several more operations, long-term medical care, and the heavy toll of emotional trauma. She has no close family nearby, and as a trans refugee, she is denied support from many public institutions.
We, her friends living far away, are doing what little we can from afar starting with this fundraiser. Every donation will help cover Olivia’s medical bills, therapy, rent, food, and other essentials while she heals and rebuilds.
If we are lucky enough to raise more than she needs, the additional funds will go to the volunteer healthcare workers who went out of their way to care for Olivia in the critical hours after the attack.
No one should suffer violence simply for being who they are. Olivia deserves safety, dignity, and support and with your help, she can find her way back to stability.
Please donate if you can, and share Olivia’s story. Every voice and every dollar makes a difference.
Trans lives are precious. Trans lives matter.
