Hi, there! My sister, Gabrielle, and her sweet family found out at 35 weeks pregnant that her baby boy has been diagnosed with critical aortic stenosis.
His heart isn’t able to pump correctly because of a valve so it is causing blood to build up and flow backwards. Her body is working for him right now but after birth his body won’t get the oxygen it needs to survive. Because of this, a balloon will be inserted into his heart to open the valve immediately after birth. If it is successful, this will buy some time for him to get bigger and stronger before a more involved surgery. He will have to stay in the cardiac icu to recover for about a month before he can come home.
She has been transferred to a further hospital and will be traveling from Tecumseh to Ann Arbor for a lot of appointments before he’s here and most likely daily to be with baby after he’s born.
