My name is Tiffany Rogers. I am the mother of Flossie Rogers! On the evening of Friday, June 13th, our world changed in the blink of an eye, literally! Flossie was playing softball in the yard like she has done multiple times. As kids do, while running for the ball, she fell, and her bonus brother fell on top of her while trying to get the ball too! She immediately started crying bloody murder, and as I checked on her, she could not move her arm at all. It was very obvious she messed something up big time! Her arm was visibly swollen, not straight, and turning blue automatically!
We rushed to the hospital in Paragould, where they did X-rays and tried to get her comfortable with the pain from her arm. After reviewing the results, they determined it was too extensive for them to touch, and she had to go immediately to the emergency room at Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital in Memphis, either by ambulance or by me! Flossie did not want to go by ambulance at all; it scared her, so I drove her. After hours of being there and lots of reviews, it was determined she had to have surgery for her broken bones! They scheduled surgery for the next morning, June 14!
Surgery did go well, and they actually changed their surgery plan from pins and a possible plate to just a screw to try and make her elbow and broken bones secure and stable. She was put in a temporary cast, and we are to follow up with them in a week for the next plan of action to see if there is any shift/change to her injury they fixed. She is supposed to have therapy and possibly another surgery depending on how she is healing and as she gets older due to her growth plate.
With no insurance currently and unsure of the future, we could use help for travel and medical expenses and a whole lot of prayers on this road to recovery for Boss Floss. Anything would be greatly appreciated as doctors said there are a lot of what-ifs and uncertainties in her future, and it could take anywhere from 6-8 weeks to even up to a year for her to recover fully. She does have some nerve damage and issues with her thumb and hand. She couldn’t move it before surgery and is slowly working on moving her fingers and thumb. She’s also having to adapt to using her right hand as she is left-handed, and that is where the injury is. I am currently not working and taking care of her. Thank you, everyone, for the love and support during this difficult time for our baby girl!
