My name is Brittany. My sister, Brynna, & I are seeking immediate/urgent help to raise enough money for my mother, Tina. She was diagnosed last year with cancer that developed in the throat & completed radiation treatments which resulted in her being in remission! Unfortunately, the cancer has returned. The next step needed before they can perform the surgery to remove it is a PET scan for “confirmation”, which the doctor said is urgent & needs to be done ASAP! She has been receiving SSI for quite some time so she has had Medicaid. Starting this month, she began receiving Disabled Widows Benefit instead of the SSI, which then makes her eligible for Medicare, but her Medicare benefits won’t begin until June 2026. We were under the impression that she would continue to receive Medicaid until then. Just this week, we found out that’s not the case. We have reapplied for a different type of Medicaid program that she should be eligible for but as we all know, these things take time (which we don’t have). In the meantime, they will not allow us to even schedule the PET scan until we pay a partial payment ($1,797) of the scan cost up front. So after hours of time spent on phone calls with the insurance agency (which they claim to be expediting, considering the situation) & the doctor’s office to try & set up some sort of payment plan, we have yet to reach a solution. So we have decided to try this as a last resort. I understand this is a big ask & if I wasn’t desperate, I would NEVER ask this from anyone. My mother has grandchildren whom she adores (the feeling is very much mutual). & she says her only goal is to be here to watch them graduate! As her daughter & mother of her grandchildren, I am willing to do any & everything I can possible to try & help her reach that goal! Not only do I owe it to her, I owe it to my children!
