For the past 30 years, our mother Martha Ortiz (60yrs old) has been the definition of strength and independence. As a single mom of 3, she’s worked tirelessly to provide for our family — never asking for help, always putting others before herself, and handling every challenge life threw at her with courage and grace.
In May 2022 she had been diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer stage 3 and in September 2022 she had surgery and had beat THAT cancer! However, in September 2024, our lives changed when she was diagnosed with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), a rare and serious form of blood cancer. Since then, she’s been in and out of hospitals, receiving treatments such as Blood and platalets transfusions as well as chemotherapy. Also most recently, she’s been hospitalized for almost over a month. As she continues her brave fight, the emotional toll has now been compounded by a financial one.
She is currently facing a major economic crisis — unable to work, struggling to keep up with household expenses, insurance payments, and the high cost of medication and cancer care. For a woman who’s always stood on her own, it’s incredibly difficult to be in this position. And for us, asking for help doesn’t come easy. But we are here now, because we simply can’t do it alone.
For those that do know my mother and our family you would know my mom has always been extremely supportive and humble and is always going above and beyond for those in need. Even when she is down to her last dollar.
Any contribution — no matter how small — will go directly toward helping cover her living expenses and medical care during this incredibly hard time. More than anything, your support will bring a sense of relief and hope to someone who has given so much of herself to others.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for standing with us during this chapter. It means more than we can ever express.
