I am married to the most kindhearted, generous, funny, thoughtful, and sweet wife named Kayce. Kayce has been on a journey of self-discovery over the past two years, coming out to me in summer 23 as trans. She started transitioning that summer and the changes I have seen in her are nothing short of amazing. A light is in her eyes that I had never seen before, even after having been together for 11 years at that point.
Gender affirming care is life saving.
Now, Kayce has reached a place where she is looking to get gender affirming surgeries completed to better reflect who she is on the inside – a woman. However, we cannot do it alone. Her insurance has currently denied coverage, even though she had jumped through extensive hoops and obtained all of the necessary documents that insurance required in order to get covered. The current estimate with the doctor/clinic that Kayce has chosen after extensive research and consults has been quoted at $75,000. We cannot pay for that out of pocket ourselves.
Gender affirming care is treated like a luxury and not essential, when it is life-saving. But insurance doesn’t and won’t see it that way.
That being said, we are sacrificing our pride and asking that if you are able to donate to the cause of helping my beautiful wife get the surgeries that will help her outsides reflect who she is on the inside, we would be eternally grateful. If you are not able to donate, even sharing this fundraiser would be so helpful and amazing. The current goal is $76,000, a little higher than the bill in order to accommodate for necessary travel expenses.
Nobody should have to crowdfund their identity, but here we are, asking for your help.
