My name is Gustavo Ajche. Many of you know me as a proud delivery worker, construction worker, and community leader with Los Deliveristas Unidos and the Workers Justice Project. I’ve spent years standing up for the rights of working people — especially gig workers who keep this city alive but are too often left behind.
Today, I find myself in a position I never wanted to be in.
A few days ago, I suffered a serious injury — I broke one of my ribs, and the doctor told me I need at least six weeks of rest to heal properly. That means I won’t be able to do either of the jobs I rely on — delivering food and working construction — to support my family.
As a father, provider, and head of my household, this is heartbreaking. Like so many immigrant workers, I don’t have access to paid sick leave, health insurance, or unemployment benefits. If I can’t work, I can’t earn — and right now, I’m unable to earn. But the rent is still due, bills keep coming, and food still needs to be on the table for my family.
It’s not easy for me to ask for help. But today, I’m turning to you — my community — for support.
If you can, please consider making a donation — every bit truly helps. And if you can’t give, please consider sharing this with others who might be able to. Your support will go directly toward helping my family cover rent, groceries, and essential needs while I recover and work to get back on my feet.
Thank you for taking the time to read this. Thank you for caring. And thank you — deeply — for standing with me and my family during this difficult time.
With gratitude,
Gustavo Ajche
