I’m reaching out today because my father, a man who’s spent his entire life working hard to provide for his family, is facing an unimaginable struggle. Recently, he was diagnosed with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD), a condition that has slowly but surely been stealing his breath away. This devastating diagnosis has forced him to retire earlier than expected, a decision he never wanted to make, but his health simply couldn’t allow him to keep working.
For as long as I can remember, my dad has been the epitome of hard work, dedication, and pride. He has always been the first to lend a helping hand to others, to show up when someone is in need. But now, the roles have reversed. As his condition worsens, my dad finds himself in a position where he needs help, but is too proud to ask. He’s a man who has always carried the weight of the world on his shoulders—he’s the last person to admit that he can’t handle everything on his own. But the truth is, the mounting medical bills, the cost of his oxygen therapy, and the expenses that come with a life-altering diagnosis have become more than he can bear alone.
He is embarrassed to ask for help, but as his family, we can no longer stand by and watch him struggle in silence.
