Support Mike’s Long Road to Recovery

Hello everyone, my name is Madison Gelder, and I am writing this on behalf of my father-in-law, Mike and mother-in-law, Tracy.

Sunday evening Mike had a stroke. His mother found him unresponsive on his dining room floor. We are unsure of how long he was down before someone found him. Upon his arrival to the hospital and completing some scan the medical team found a brain bleed. After careful consideration they decided to hold off on surgery for the time being, because they were worried it would cause more harm than good.

Tuesday afternoon he started to complain of a headache and 10/10 pain. His medical team decided to take him for an emergency CT scan. Come Wednesday morning his brain bleed turned into a clot, and he has increased swelling. Both these things combined made his team decide to do the surgery.

His surgeon said everything went as good as they could have hoped. They were able to get the clot out and the swelling went down enough that they were able to put his skull plate back on. This was the best news we could have hoped for.

Mike still has a long road to recovery as his speech is still slurred, he has little to no movement on his left side, and surgery itself has a long recovery time. With all this being said they are going to have tons of medical bills piling up. Mike will still be in the hospital for a while and once discharged he will require lots of physical therapy.

There is an unknow amount of time that Mike will not be able to work. Tracy is able to work remote for her full-time job but had to take some leave from her second job, so she is able to focus on helping Mike get better.

If you don’t feel comfortable donating through this site Tracy has also set up a Cash App and Venmo. Any amount given will be greatly appreciated and used to help with any current and upcoming medical expense.
