Help Us Support Abey (Gerardo Vazquez) with Stage 4 Cancer, Medical Bills and In Home Care.
Some of you may know my dad, Gerardo lovingly known as Abey. He’s a father, grandpa, and former business owner of Little Joe’s, where he spent over 30 years cooking, serving his community, and running restaurants with pride and dedication. If you’ve eaten a meal there, chances are you’ve had something he created with his own hands.
Recently, our world was turned upside down.
My dad was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, which has already spread to his neck, lungs, liver, and sternum. He recently suffered an Embolic Bilateral Stroke that affected both sides of his brain and kept him in the hospital for 10 days, he’s finally back home exhausted but fighting. He’s getting ready to begin chemotherapy and is trying his hardest to face the biggest battle of his life.
A lot of you probably remember my dad as a very hard worker, he is someone who has survived extreme poverty, becoming a US citizen, and living the American dream. He’s been through a lot and my family and I have been blessed to see all of his sides. My dad is goofy, loving, and fiercely proud of his family and grandkids. That man is still here, still fighting, and still loving us through all the pain.
Unfortunately, the road ahead is long and expensive. We’re asking for your help to raise money, which will go directly toward:
• Medical bills from hospital stays, oncology appointments, medications, and ongoing care
• Home modifications to keep him safe and comfortable while he fights from home
• In home caregiving support, so he can remain surrounded by family and love, rather than in a facility
• And while we’re staying hopeful, a portion may also help cover end of life costs.
If you know my dad, you know he’s never been the type to ask for help. He worked hard his whole life often to a fault to provide for those he loves. Now it’s our turn to try to give back and support him during this painful and uncertain time.
Any amount, no matter how small, would mean the world to us. And if you can’t donate, we would be so grateful if you could share this with others who may have known him, eaten at his restaurants, or crossed paths with our family over the years.
Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your prayers, your love, and your support. We’ll continue to post updates as this journey unfolds.
With love,
The Vazquez family
